Bunny Drama

January 13th, 2010
So we go on vacation & while we were gone Moo has developed a problem with her feet! She has moved to the garage, which against Derek's wishes, has now become the bunny hospital.....
This is what they looked like.....
Bunny feet are supposed to be covered with fur!!
OUCH!!!!
After a few days, Scarlet Oil Wound Spray, Neosporin, Preparation H & LOTS of TLC....they are looking better.....
Oh but wait!
You see the cute little bulldog on the sidebar??
Yes, RICK!!!
Well he & Mykah have a constant feud going because he loves to scare the shit out of her bunnies! He also steals her stuff while she is out there taking care of them....if she sets down say a water bottle, he grabs it & takes off!
He is very naughty.
Honestly, I really do not like him for lots of reasons.
Anyway, yesterday he had been in his kennel for most of the day because I had Spencer at PCMC to have him seen for his migraines, which is another story. I came home & let him outside & decided to leave him out to run around while I picked kids up from school because he had been locked up for the entire morning.
Derek called & I ended up meeting him at Sams Club so by the time we got home it had been an hour or so.....
Mykah went out to feed her bunnies when we got home & next thing I know she is at the door holding Penelope with a terrified look on her face.
The damn dog somehow opened the bunny hutch & had tormented her for who knows how long! Derek helped Mykah check over Penelope & they found the bleeding was coming from her back feet. The poor thing had worn her nails down so far that they were bleeding everywhere....she had been chased around on the cement so much trying to get away from the idiot dog that it had filed them to the quick & one toenail was torn almost completely off. Also her awesome winter coat of fur was covered in slobber!! Upon further investigation, there were bloody footprints & scratch marks all over the cement under the deck where the bunnies live. It was so sad & very gross! The poor bunny was very shaken up & scared to death! When Mykah went out there & noticed she was not in her cage she called her name just once & amazingly Penelope, who had been hiding under some hay, popped out & hopped right over to Mykah's feet! She just looked up at her as if to say....SAVE ME!!!!!!!!
Mykah read that when you trim the nails you can use cornstarch to stop the bleeding if you cut them too short so she did that & Derek sprayed some of the scarlet oil on her. The red is the spray, not blood.
Now for a little grooming.....
....you can see where she had to get the dog slobber wiped off her back....
A little doctoring & a big carrot & a chance to slow the heart rate...she is good as new. After a sleepover in the hospital/garage she is fine so will be going back to her hutch (with a new lock) tomorrow.
Russell will be moving to the garage in her spot. We do not know what the deal is with him....he was fine when we left but now has lost the fur on his face...wth? Maybe we can get to the bottom of it watching him closer. I took a picture but it is really gross so I didn't post it! We will see what happens.....
Moo resides in the garage for now & probably will for a few weeks until her feet are completely healed. Even then she may not be able to live on a wire bottom cage. You can see in the picture she won't put her front paw down. It almost looks like she has lost a leg.
I will tell you that all these bunnies in the warm months was pretty easy & uneventful but as far as winter goes it is a lot of work!!!
Baby bunnies???
Well.....Mykah tried once again to get some baby rabbits out of Moo & Penelope. This time she sorta switched up who the fathers would be to try & determine if someone just was not able to "be a parent". Moo & Rusty have not had any luck twice now. She paired up Moo with Edgar & Penelope with Rusty.....they would be due until around the 17th but I am pretty sure that it was yet again.....unsuccessful! :( This is NOT supposed to hard!!!! I swear I thought breeding rabbits was something you need to prevent!!! She even had the breeder she got Tiki from breed her for us before we got her in hopes of some baby bunnies but that date has come & gone as well. By the time we get some babies they could have been humans because it is taking forever! Maybe spring will bring some luck....we haven't given up yet. Cross your fingers again!
