Public vs. Charter

For the past few weeks I have been debating on whether or not to send my 4 youngest kids back to the public schools in my area. I have turned in registrations for Kindergarten & they have been accepted into the Charter School that Spencer & Averie have been attending since it opened. I worry about the fact that they spend so much time on school & not enough time just being kids. The education they receive there is top notch but lacks in social enjoyment & extra-cirricular activities. I would be lying if I didn't tell you I am sick of driving them & am NOT excited one bit to get to go there 4 times a day. I would do it but don"t want to!

Just now Mykah is telling me a story of what happened in class today. She is telling me about the class discussion in Creative Writing. They are studying Beatrix Potter. The teacher announces they will be watching her biography in class.....

Here is the dialogue between Teacher & Student:

T-"ok class we are going to be watching a video about Beatrix Potter. She is the woman who wrote about Peter Rabbit."

S-very excited and dead serious "OH!! Is she related to Harry Potter?"

T-"ummmmm last time I checked Harry Potter was not a real person. He is a character in a book.

S-"oh ok" like he really learned something already.

This is what scares me. Mykah is in 10th grade!! I can't believe how dumb kids are these days. She swears this was not just someone being a smart ass or trying to get attention. The fellow student was serious!
